Songs of Hope & Healing -concert presented by Augsburg Music Therapy

April 28, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

This event is free to all. Donations to build a scholarship fund for Music Therapy students at Augsburg will be accepted.

Join us for a very special concert featuring board-certified music therapists performing and sharing songs composed by clients during music therapy sessions. Composing songs in music therapy can be a way for people to reflect on their own experiences, communicate their thoughts and feelings, or process and gain insight about life events. These songs can become artifacts that serve as reminders of growth and development in the therapeutic process.

This concert is also an arts-based research experience being conducted by the music therapy faculty:

Annie Heiderscheit
PhD, MT-BC, LMFC
Program Director

Juyoung Lee
PhD, RMT, MT-BC
Assistant Professor

Emma Moonier
MS, R-AT, LPCC, MT-BC
Instructor

Audience members will have the opportunity to participate by completing a brief questionnaire about their experience listening to these unique songs. There is a limited body of arts-based research focused on music therapy practice, as well as sparse literature regarding the use of songwriting in music therapy, so this project aims to build this research evidence.

Register for Songs of Hope and Healing.

Please also consider making a donation to support our students. Select Music Department under the designation drop-down menu. Any gift made in connection with this concert will be used as a scholarship for one or more students studying Music Therapy
