About the Presentation

COVID-19 has been difficult for all of us, but particularly difficult for communities of color, especially the African American and Native American Indian communities. This is not an anomaly. Health disparities in the United States have been a persistent problem from the time they have been tracked. This presentation looks at how the systems and structures of our society have proved fertile ground for the virus to spread in these historically underserved communities, what we can learn from this about how the same dynamics impact our organizations, and explores some options about what we can do about it.

Learning Outcomes
  • Gain a sense of how the virus is impacting communities of color
  • Understand the complex web of systemic racism and many of the ways it contributes to the proliferation of the disease
  • See how some of these same factors impact organizational dynamics and learn how they can approach addressing them
