Guest Speaker, Rob Kapilow “Listening for the hmmm…”

March 12, 2020 @ 1:50 pm - 3:00 pm CDT

Free

Based on a passage from Ann Lamott’s writer’s manual, Bird by Bird, about finding beginnings, finding your voice, and finding what contribution you are meant to make. Discovering what makes you go hmmm… and learning to act on it. Making what you decide to do, grow
out of who you decide to be. Lessons learned from Yale and Broadway; NPR and PBS; Dr. Seuss and the Polar Express; teenage suicide victims on the Golden Gate Bridge and theBlackfoot Indian reservation in Montana.

Kapilow’s work is astonishingly broad, including his What Makes It Great?® presentations (now for over twenty seasons in New York and Boston), his family compositions and Family Musik® events, his “Citypieces”, and residencies with institutions as diverse as the National Gallery of Canada and Stanford University. The reach of his interactive activities is wide, from Native American tribal communities in Montana and inner-city high school students in Louisiana to audiences in Kyoto and Kuala Lumpur, and from tots barely out of diapers to musicologists in Ivy League programs. Kapilow is a newly appointed Artistic Partner with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, which is generously sponsoring his appearances at Augsburg University
