The events will be surrounding Black History Month and, in that, we would like to advocate for self-love, self- appreciation and self-recognition for our participants. During this event we will discuss how historical dehumanization, oppression, and violence against Black and African American people has evolved into present day racism – structural, institutional, and individual – and cultivates a uniquely mistrustful and less affluent community experience, characterized by disparities including inadequate access to and delivery of care in the health system. ESA would like to provide a space for women of color and everyone that would like to participate where we could all come together to reflect on our mental health. Often women of color are neglected when having these kinds of conversations and we want our participants to feel heard and understood.
