SUMMARY:Forum Presentaion\, When Our Identities Conflict – Learning to See and Hear Each Other Across Difference
DESCRIPTION:When: May 20\, 2021 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm CST \nWhere: Online/Video Conference \nCost: $30 Suggested Donation \nRegister here: https://forumworkplaceinclusion.org/dibs/when-our-identities-conflict-learning-to-see-and-hear-each-other-across-difference/ \nPresenters: Bill Proudman\, White Men as Full Diversity Partners/FDP Global  |  Hayward Bell\, Raytheon Company RETIRED  |  Kimberly B. Davis\, National Hockey League  |  Lee Tschanz\, Rockwell Automation  |  Amy Wilczynski\, Anderson & Rust – Borough of Allendale\, NJ \nWhat do we believe about ourselves as a people and country — the UNITED States of America? What values do we pass on to our children and their children’s children? What resonates for us\, and why? \nJoin us for a moderated panel discussion that explores understanding our beliefs and values\, what underwrites our political identities\, and how to influence ourselves and our interactions in partnership and leadership across many difference points of view. \nAfter the January 6 insurrection at the US Capital\, an ideological and heartfelt battle took place in our mediascapes: Some cried\, “This is not who we are!” while others replied\, “Yes\, it is. And it has been.” \nHow we define and understand ourselves and our country is deeply personal. For some of us\, the contest over who we are sends us spiraling into our own perceived failings and blame. For others\, it perpetuates generations-long feelings of oppression and silencing\, an annihilation of self and community. \nOur beliefs are often incomplete and based on how our parents and their parents viewed the world – what they valued\, believed\, and passed on to us as our cultural legacy. And\, what we believe and how others share their beliefs touches the most profound parts of ourselves\, influencing not only our political identities\, but also how we enter into partnership\, particularly across difference; how we lead; and how we feel we belong at work\, at home\, and in life. \nTo build inclusive and equitable workplaces\, we have to be willing to deeply know ourselves and how our beliefs and values shape how we see and judge others. This self awareness is an underpinning of full partnership. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nLearn how to deeply listen to hear and recognize the humanity in ourselves and each other\nEmbrace paradoxes of sameness and difference\, individual and group\nExplore how our mindsets are shaped by our beliefs and values (what underpins our political identities)

SUMMARY:Forum Event - Religion in the Workplace: Interfaith Skills to Engage Difference
DESCRIPTION:When: May 6\, 2021 11:00 am – 12:30 pm CST\nWhere: Online/Video Conference\nCost: $30 Suggested Donation\nLevel: Intermediate\nTrack: Critical Employment Practices \nPresenters: Megan Hughes Johnson\, Interfaith Youth Core  |  Jenan Mohajir\, Interfaith Youth Core \nReligious diversity is an incredibly important part of American public life. Controversies regarding religion and business are regularly in both the press and the courts and more Americans say that they encounter religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of their life (PRRI\, 2019). However\, religion is often left out of the corporate diversity conversation. Diverse identities and perspectives on a team can lead to greater outcomes or can lead to misunderstanding and conflict. It is only when diverse identities are engaged\, and team members have opportunities to intentionally learn about one another\, that the potential strength of workplace diversity is unlocked. Developing a company culture that proactively engages religious diversity can open doors to greater employee productivity\, enhanced client satisfaction\, and even new business prospects. Join IFYC to explore why engaging religion matters in the workplace\, workshop challenging scenarios\, and identify your interfaith skillset. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nLearn why engaging religious diversity matters in the workplace\nUnderstand and apply interfaith frameworks to common tensions in the workplace related to religious identity and diversity\nIdentify concrete skills to engage religious diversity and enhance workplace culture

SUMMARY:Forum Webinar: From Bystander to Ally
DESCRIPTION:When: April 15\, 2021 11:00 am – 12:00 pm CT\nLevel: Intermediate\nTrack: Social Responsibility\nPresenters: Dr. Daniel Cantor Yalowitz\, DCY Consulting  |  Tatyana Fertelmeyster\, Connecting Differences\, LLC \nCost: Free \nWhen anyone is confronted by any form of aggression\, whether verbal\, physical\, social\, or economic\, it is natural to feel fear\, doubt\, and paralysis. This is important in assessing critical next steps if we happen to be a bystander. We must also look at our own fears and triggers as they\, too\, play a role in how we may react or respond to any potential conflict or confrontation. \nDuring this webinar participants will consider some very important questions as they devise their own ways of responding to triggering situations. How does privilege impact decisions to engage in conflict and whether/how to respond? When is allyship an act of support\, and when is it not? Who gets to decide? How do we deal with our own emotional responses to aggression and confrontation? How can one become an effective ally in a virtual work world and how does this differ from an in-person workplace? \nLearning Outcomes \n\nKnow how to decide when to intervene as an active bystander\nIdentify and manage their personal emotional triggers\nUtilize practical tools to engage in building allyship for safety in their workplace

For others\, it’s an acute loss. \nOur most important work\, right now\, is to put in motion the practices and programs to create cohesion\, build community and help leaders reach across difference. \nThat said\, it’s become dangerous to talk about politics at work even though the political divide now more than ever inhibits positive connection\, at work\, at home\, and in our communities. This divide threatens progress towards more diverse and equitable workplaces. \nNow\, amidst this divisiveness\, is the opportunity for workplaces to double down and equip their leaders on how to bridge the divide. There is no time to waste. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nBe clear on why diversity\, equity\, and inclusion work matters\, especially right now\nPush your inclusive leadership skills for today’s unique needs\nExplore how to narrow divides and speak to divergent groups

SUMMARY:White Fragility and Microagressions In the Workplace: When Good People Behave Badly\, DAY 3
DESCRIPTION:When: April 24\, 2020 11:00 am – 12:00 pm CST\nLevel: Intermediate\nTrack: Social Responsibility\nPresenter: Nancy Michael\, AMAZEworks\nCost: FREE \n\nDue to overwhelming demand\, this webinar is being offered on three separate days. This is Day 3 of 3 dates offered for this webinar. Additional dates available are located below: \n\nDay 1\, Spots Available\nDay 2 **AT CAPACITY**\n\nOften\, good intentions receive more attention than the negative impacts they may produce. In the same way white superiority created the systems and structures we have in place\, it also created the ability for the people who benefit overlook the effects on those who are marginalized or injured. When confronted with these truths\, the reactions of many if not most white Americans fall under the category of white fragility. \nThis is an intense focus on the feelings of white people when their understanding of themselves and their world is challenged. \nWhite fragility feeds on the fact that white people generally do not see themselves in racial terms and therefore are not affected by racism. It also works through a simplistic understanding of racism and a belief that white people are generally objective and free of bias. This webinar highlights the ways white fragility appear in the workplace and how it can be addressed for individual and organizational growth. \nLearning Outcomes\n\nGain an understanding of where white fragility comes from\nExplore examples of how it appears in equity work and in the workplace\nExamine strategies that address white fragility and create buy-in

SUMMARY:Culture Clash: Can Latino Culture Identity and Corporate Culture Be Reconciled?
DESCRIPTION:The Forum on Workplace Inclusion Online Webinar\nWhen: October 24\, 2019 11:00 am – 12:00 pm\nLevel: Intermediate\nTrack: D&I Strategy\nPresenter: Andres Tapia\, Korn Ferry\nCost: Free\, Online Webinar \nRegister at https://forumworkplaceinclusion.org/webinars/culture-clash/ \nCorporate America says it wants more Latinos in manager and leadership roles. Latino professionals in growing numbers aspire to achieve these leadership positions. Yet what should be mutually reinforcing trends to speed up advancement are instead two forces increasingly in conflict due to deep differences between corporate culture and Latino culture. If corporations really want to create more Latino leaders\, they must go beyond the necessary public declarations in support of diversity and take a zero-tolerance stance toward overt bias. This requires facing up to unconscious cultural biases that can negatively affect the evaluation of both the performance and the potential of Latino talent and generate work environments that are unattractive to many Latinos. In this session\, Latino talent expert Andrés Tapia will highlight key findings based on their newly published book\, “Auténtico: The Definitive Guide to Latino Career Success.” Specifically\, the session will demonstrate why corporate America is totally unprepared for the future workforce that will have an increasingly Latino identity. Numerous examples will be provided on how corporate cultural norms are often at odds with common aspects of Latino heritage and behavioral tendencies. Finally\, solutions will be shared on how to create corporate cultures that are more inclusive towards Latinos and which help to create the conditions that will nurture Latino career advancement. \nLearning Outcomes\n\nRecognize the importance of Hispanic heritage and Latino Culture in shaping the workplace behavior of Latino professionals\nCompare Latino Culture against Corporate America Culture across 6 key cultural dimensions\nDevelop solutions to the Latino and Corporate Culture Clash.
