DESCRIPTION:Augsburg Sociology Alumni Maria Belén Power will be the speaker at the 14th Annual Torstenson Lecture. She is the Associate Executive Director of GreenRoots\, Inc. in Boston\, Massachusetts. Drawing on her experience as a community organizer\, she will talk about “Understanding Environmental Justice: What Do Race and Class Have to Do with It?” This year’s Torstenson Lecture is held in conjunction with the celebration of the Sociology Department’s 75th Anniversary and the Urban Studies Program’s 50th Anniversary. The lecture will be held in OGC114\, and will be followed by All School Reunion events.

SUMMARY:Project Connect training: intimate partner violence warning signs and impact
DESCRIPTION:Training by Meggie Royer\,   Prevention Program Manager at the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW)\, Minnesota’s statewide coalition against domestic violence. Project Connect training is specifically for student services professionals at local colleges and universities. This training provides information that is relevant to Title IX coordinators/departments\, health and wellness department staff\, and counseling staff.  Student services professionals will gain a deeper understanding of the warning signs and impacts of intimate partner violence and how to work effectively and empathically with students who may be experiencing IPV.
