SUMMARY:Intercultural Communication and Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program workshop makes use of the Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory\, which describes an individual’s preferred approach or style for resolving conflict by reflecting the individual’s culturally learned patterns for dealing with disagreements and expressing emotions. Additionally\, this workshop will not only teach individuals about their own preferred approach and style\, but also about the preferred approaches and styles of others. Finally\, this workshop will give participants tangible skills that can be used when navigating communication and conflict across cultural differences. The increased understanding of intercultural communication and conflict styles and tangible skills participants will receive from this workshop can both enhance their overall intercultural competence\, increase their effectiveness when working to resolve disagreements across cultures\, and help them to create more inclusive campus spaces at Augsburg.   \nFor more information about this workshop\, email Michael Grewe at grewe@augsburg.edu.     \nTo register for this workshop\, click HERE.

SUMMARY:Faculty and Staff of Color Lunch
DESCRIPTION:If you have received this email it means that your name was on a calendar invite to a Faculty and Staff of Color Lunch meeting invite last academic year\, that you signed up to be added to this invite list at a new faculty or staff orientation\, or that a colleague suggested to our department that you be added. (Please note that at any time you may ask to be removed from the invitation list for the Faculty and Staff of Color Lunches.) \nThis academic year the Faculty and Staff of Color Lunches will be a little bit different from previous years. This academic year the lunches will be sponsored and scheduled by the new Equity and Inclusion Initiatives Department. The main focus of these lunches will be for faculty and staff of color at Augsburg University to gather\, break bread\, and connect. There will be no set agenda other than the expectation to try to get to know folks you don’t already know and to build community. Also there will be a small amount of time at the end of the lunches set aside for folks to make announcements. The plan is for lunch to be provided at every gathering for the entire academic year\, barring major/unforeseen budget issues. Because the amount of food ordered will be determined based on the number of individuals who reply “yes” to the calendar invite\, it is essential that folks respond to the calendar invites in a timely fashion. \nIn closing\, have a wonderful day and I hope to see you all at our first lunch! \nBest\, Joanne
