DESCRIPTION:An award-winning documentary narrated by Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood\, First Generation tells the story of four high school students who set out to break the cycle of poverty and bring hope to their families and communities by pursuing a college education. Shot over the course of three years and featuring some of our nation’s top educational experts\, this documentary explores the problem of college access faced by first generation and low-income students and how their success has major implications for the future of our nation. \nAttendees are invited to stay after the screening for an informal discussion moderated by TRIO/SSS and MLife staff. Snacks will be provided!

DESCRIPTION:November 8 was selected as the date for the annual National First-Generation College Celebration to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. The HEA was passed to ensure that everyone has access to higher education\, regardless of income. In recognition of First-Generation College Celebration Day\, the departments of TRIO Student Support Services\, TRIO McNair Scholars\, and Multicultural Life will be hosting events that highlight the first-generation college experience during the week of November 7. \nStop by the Gage Center (Lindell Library\, 2nd floor) on Wednesday\, November 9\, 11am – 3pm\, for treats and conversation — all are welcome!

Each Wednesday\, we will do a deep dive into a specific topic with guest speakers\, experts\, and program representatives\, along with time for Q & A from the audience.   \nOn February 3\, join us for a session on How to Afford Study Abroad/Away  \n\nDon’t let cost get in your way to study abroad/away! Come to this World Wednesday session to learn about how financial aid works for study abroad\, and which programs for Augsburg students can be the most affordable options. We’ll hear from Catherine Maun from the Financial Aid Office and Carden Olson\, Auggie alum and Gilman Scholarship winner who studied abroad in Denmark.\n\nRecordings will be posted on the CGEE YouTube channel and on this blog post after the live event concludes.
