This second installment of her Growing Pains series includes a video installation and paintings centered around the color red (anger and wisdom) that encourage an open dialogue about hurt and healing\, offering space to express emotions and begin breaking the cycle of pain. \n \nMOHAMED HERSI \nTides of Tribulations: A Journey Through Solace | Christensen Gallery \nThrough a series of large scale paintings\, Hersi explores emotional states of being that shape both the present moments and fleeting memories of our human experience. From joy and hope to confusion and grief\, Hersi uses portraiture\, landscape\, and abstraction to reflect on what we currently hold and embrace\, and what we will perhaps always be sifting through. A moment can hold much emotion\, and emotions are what move us.

SUMMARY:Working Toward Inclusive Spaces Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program workshop will highlight four common ideologies\, misunderstandings\, and behaviors that many well-meaning individuals frequently subscribe to that inadvertently sabotage their best attempts to create and maintain welcoming and inclusive spaces at Augsburg. Additionally\, this workshop will provide participants with historical\, current\, and relevant examples connected to these ideologies\, misunderstandings\, and behaviors. SUMMARY:2024 Torstenson Lecture in Sociology
DESCRIPTION:Sociologist Erika Busse-Cárdenas will present “Testimonio as a Tool for Memorializing Family Separation and the Struggle to Reunification: The Case of Dreamers Moms USA – Tijuana.” \nErika Busse-Cárdenas\, Ph.D.\, is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Macalester College. She studies the social construction of motherhood in the context of migration. Her research interests are connected by an underlying focus on the relationship between inequality regimes and social justice. Her scholarship examines the experiences of Latin American transnational mothers juggling gender\, class\, and racial hierarchies in both their home countries and the countries of reception\, and the ways in which they engage in homemaking in the process. Her work has been published in journals such as Sociology of Race and Ethnicity; Ethnic and Racial Studies; and Diversities.
