DESCRIPTION:Soomaal Visual Arts Fellowship is a partnership between Soomaal House of Art and Augsburg Galleries that aims to harness the power of art as a tool for intellectual and civic engagement by advocating and advancing the creative development of Somali visual artists. \nWASIMA FARAH  \nGrowing Pains II: Expected Disappointments | Gage Gallery \nFarah delves into the complex dynamics of the relationship between a mother and eldest daughter\, exploring themes of generational trauma\, emotional legacies\, and communication gaps. This second installment of her Growing Pains series includes a video installation and paintings centered around the color red (anger and wisdom) that encourage an open dialogue about hurt and healing\, offering space to express emotions and begin breaking the cycle of pain. \n \nMOHAMED HERSI \nTides of Tribulations: A Journey Through Solace | Christensen Gallery \nThrough a series of large scale paintings\, Hersi explores emotional states of being that shape both the present moments and fleeting memories of our human experience. From joy and hope to confusion and grief\, Hersi uses portraiture\, landscape\, and abstraction to reflect on what we currently hold and embrace\, and what we will perhaps always be sifting through. A moment can hold much emotion\, and emotions are what move us.

Schaalman Professor in Jewish Studies and Senior Faculty Fellow of the Interreligious Institute at Chicago Theological Seminary. \nProfessors Mikva and Syeed will share stories about their teaching experiences across religious\, ideological\, and world view differences. Both have worked in diverse classroom settings and with a wide range of students. They will explore pedagogies that co-create spaces of exploration and engagement in high conflict contexts. We will spend time in the seminar developing tools for your own context as an instructor and offer reflections and problem-solving opportunities for specific issues you may be dealing with in your classroom and diverse co-curricular settings.
