SUMMARY:From Soil to Stars\, A Reading & Conversation with Erin Sharkey & Michael Kleber-Diggs
DESCRIPTION:Event Description: What are the politics of nature? Who owns it\, where is it\, and what role does it play in our lives? Does it need to be tamed? Are we ourselves natural? Erin Sharkey and Michael Kleber-Diggs will discuss\, A Darker Wilderness: Black Nature Writing from Soil to Stars\, a collection of personal and lyric essays in conversation with archival objects of Black history and memory. The collection explores stories spanning hundreds of years and thousands of miles\, traveling from roots to space–finding rich Blackness everywhere. Together we will consider the significance of nature in our lives and on the role of nature in the lives of Black folks.  \nAugsburg's Environmental Action Committee\, Pan-Afrikan Student Services\, and MFA Department\, along with our friends at the Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability (UMACS)\, invite the Augsburg community and partners to an evening of exploration into the intersections between People and Planet: Intersectional Environmentalism. \nLight refreshments will be served. Parking is available in Lot D. Books can be purchased in person at the event and online. Photos from Augsburg’s Pan-Afrikan Archive will be on display. More event details can be found here. \nLocation: Hagfors 150 & Zoom (Register in advance for virtual option here) \nContact: Monica McDaniel\, Sustainability Officer (mcdaniem@augsburg.edu)  \nThis event is part of Earth Month 2023. SUMMARY:El Mundo Esta En Tus Manos
DESCRIPTION:This event will encourage discussions on climate change in the United States and in countries in South America. By being informed\, we will also give the opportunity to craft a terrarium and enjoy a snack with it. This gives the Augsburg community an opportunity to learn about the environment and bring something with them to remind them about the planet's well-being. \nContact: Yuridia Otero-Martinez (oteromy@augsburg.edu)

SUMMARY:Greenhouse Open House: Earth Month edition
DESCRIPTION:Special features for Earth Month! The wild ancestors and cousins of our domesticated crops still exist in many places around the world. These crop wild relatives represent  valuable genetic resources that we can use to breed crops more resilient to climate change\, such as drought or flood resistance. Ironically\, human activity is now threatening the habitats of many of these important species that our future food security could depend on\, and some are even facing extinction. Come learn about the fascinating botany of crop wild relatives and why they matter. \nThis is a special edition of the greenhouse’s regular monthly open house on the first Thursday of the month. \nContact: Dr. Leon van Eck\, Assistant Professor of Biology (vaneck@augsburg.edu)
