SUMMARY:Faculty and Staff of Color Lunch
DESCRIPTION:If you have received this email it means that your name was on a calendar invite to a Faculty and Staff of Color Lunch meeting invite last academic year\, that you signed up to be added to this invite list at a new faculty or staff orientation\, or that a colleague suggested to our department that you be added. (Please note that at any time you may ask to be removed from the invitation list for the Faculty and Staff of Color Lunches.) \nThis academic year the Faculty and Staff of Color Lunches will be a little bit different from previous years. This academic year the lunches will be sponsored and scheduled by the new Equity and Inclusion Initiatives Department. The main focus of these lunches will be for faculty and staff of color at Augsburg University to gather\, break bread\, and connect. There will be no set agenda other than the expectation to try to get to know folks you don’t already know and to build community. Also there will be a small amount of time at the end of the lunches set aside for folks to make announcements. The plan is for lunch to be provided at every gathering for the entire academic year\, barring major/unforeseen budget issues. Because the amount of food ordered will be determined based on the number of individuals who reply “yes” to the calendar invite\, it is essential that folks respond to the calendar invites in a timely fashion. \nIn closing\, have a wonderful day and I hope to see you all at our first lunch! \nBest\, Joanne

SUMMARY:Intercultural Communication and Conflict Styles Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop makes use of the Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory\, which describes an individual’s preferred approach or style for resolving conflict by reflecting the individual’s culturally learned patterns for dealing with disagreements and expressing emotions. Additionally\, this workshop will not only teach individuals about their own preferred approach and style\, but also about the preferred approaches and styles of others. Finally\, this workshop will give participants tangible skills that can be used when navigating communication and conflict across cultural differences. The increased understanding of intercultural communication and conflict styles and tangible skills participants will receive from this workshop can both enhance their overall intercultural competence\, increase their effectiveness when working to resolve disagreements across cultures\, and help them to create more inclusive campus spaces at Augsburg. \nFor more information about this workshop\, email inclusion@augsburg.edu.To register for this workshop\, click HERE.

SUMMARY:Canceled - Destigmatizing Mental Health in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:Join Equity & Inclusion Initiatives and NAMI Minnesota to have greater discussion around de-stigmatizing mental health in higher education.\nHow do we better understand and support students with mental health concerns\, especially when those students identities and believes may not align with ours? How do we talk about mental health practices from an anti-racial lens – knowing that western practices can be re-traumatizing and triggering?\nNAMI Minnesota champions justice\, dignity and respect for all people affected by mental illnesses. Through education\, support and advocacy we strive to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illnesses\, affect positive changes in the mental health system\, and increase the public and professional understanding of mental illnesses.

SUMMARY:Faculty and Staff of Color Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Faculty and Staff of Color Lunches are sponsored and scheduled by the Equity and Inclusion Initiatives Department. The main focus of these lunches is for faculty and staff of color at Augsburg University to gather\, break bread\, and connect. There will be no set agenda for the lunches\, other than the expectation for folks to try to get to know each other in the hopes of building a stronger affinity-group community. Also there will be a small amount of time at the end of the lunches set aside for folks to make announcements. Lunch will be provided at every gathering for the entire academic year\, barring major/unforeseen budget issues.

SUMMARY:Global Citizenship: Whole World Sensibilities and Responsibilities in the Time of COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:When: July 30\, 2020 10:00 am – 11:30 am\nCost: $30 Suggested Donation\nLearning Track: Global Diversity\nPresenters: Khadija Ali\, Global Language Connections  |  Shawntera M. Hardy\, PolicyGrounds Consulting  |  Mark Ritchie\, Global Minnesota \n\nGlobal citizenship and inter-connectivity allows us to experience and impact the world in more expansive ways than ever before. However\, with this new international reach\, comes responsibility for simultaneously caring for both our local communities and for others on the planet impacted by our actions or decisions. Given these new realities\, how do we ensure our practices and solutions meet increasingly complex challenges at the local and planetary levels? \nLearning Outcomes\n\nCommunications policies and practices that satisfy individual interests while keeping in mind the needs of current and future generations – here and everywhere\nTeam member training approaches to developing simultaneously local and global thinking/action\nFeedback mechanism to involve the broader community in this “balancing” process\n\nSPECIAL MESSAGE: This presentation was originally scheduled as one of our Diversity Insights Breakfasts\, which are in-person events designed around networking\, a plated breakfast and a professional presentation including participatory table work. We usually charge for these in-person events to help off-set the cost of hosting them. The original ticket price for this event was going to be $45. However\, due to COVID-19\, the in-person portion of this event – like most all in-person events – has had to be re-imagined. And the show must go on.\nThe work we do – the space we operate in – does not stop simply because we’re working differently. So we have decided to move this event online\, and make the event free. But it still costs time\, resources\, and money to host the event. So while the event is free\, we’re asking anyone who is willing or able to\, to make a suggested donation of $30. While the suggested donation is $30\, we ask that you give whatever you think this presentation and the mission of The Forum is worth. Whether less than or more than\, it’s up to you! Whatever you give is generous. We sincerely and truly appreciate the support.
