This concert showcases a blend of past and present\, highlighting the versatility and enduring beauty of Korean music. \nDr. Hyunchae KimHyunchae Kim majored in gayageum at Seoul National University\, where she also earned her Master’s and Doctorate degrees\, focusing on gayageum sanjo. She has won several prestigious awards\, including the Presidential Prize at the 2019 Gurye Gayageum Competition\, and is a certified apprentice of Gayageum Sanjo & Byeongchang\, a National Intangible Cultural Asset. As a soloist and ensemble musician\, she has premiered works by contemporary composers such as Hyo-shin Na and Baudouin de Jaer\, releasing albums featuring both traditional and modern repertoire. She has taught gayageum at Seoul National University and Gachon University and has published research on the history of gayageum sanjo. Since 2023\, she has been an Artist in Residence at the Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago (KPAC)\, where she teaches\, performs\, and directs the SoriBeat youth instrumental ensemble.
